Der Name des Unternehmens (engl. und span. „Lehmziegel“) kommt von einem Fluss namens Adobe Creek, der hinter Warnocks Haus im kalifornischen Los Altos fließt. Adobe konzentriert sich vor allem auf Programme rund um die Druckervorstufe, erstellt aber u. a. auch Programme für digitale Bildbearbeitung, E-Learning und Hilfssysteme.
