18.11.2025 Rio Tinto drosselt ab Oktober 2026 die Produktion der australischen Aluminiumoxid-Raffinerie Yarwun um 40 Prozent. Grund sind zu hohe Investitionskosten für eine zweite Abfallanlage. Die Jahresproduktion sinkt dadurch um rund 1,2 Millionen Tonnen - etwa drei Prozent des Nicht-China-Angebots. So soll die Anlage bis 2035 weiterlaufen. Etwa 180 von 725 Jobs entfallen. Die Kürzung könnte Europas Versorgungslage weiter verschärfen, da die Region ohnehin stark auf Aluminiumimporte angewiesen ist.
